Who wrote the Australian Certificate Markets – February Update, and what is his title?

The February Update was written by Hamish McGovern, Group Managing Director of Northmore Gordon.

What was the overall trend in Australian environmental certificate markets in February 2026?

According to the page, the Australian environmental certificate markets in February 2026 were characterised by a general softening in prices across most sectors (ACCU, ESC, LGC, and STC), driven by high supply and the meeting of compliance deadlines, while the VEEC market was a notable outlier with prices continuing to climb.

How did ACCU prices move in February 2026 and why?

ACCU prices drifted down from $37.50 to $36.25 in February 2026, as March 31 compliance demand was largely satisfied and the Clean Energy Regulator (CER) expects ACCU issuance for 2026 to grow to 22–26 million.

What happened to ESC prices in February and what regulatory event closed during the month?

ESC prices eased, finishing lower at $22.25 following increased end-of-month registration volume. Additionally, the NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) had its statutory review and rule change consultations close in February.

Why did VEEC prices rise in February 2026 despite strong certificate creation?

VEEC creation rates reached 120k–130k per week, above the run rate needed for the 4.4 million annual target, but a lack of spot liquidity pushed VEEC prices up to finish February at $83.00.

What enforcement and program updates were noted for the VEEC/VEU market?

The Essential Services Commission (regulator for VEECs) continues to maintain a strict enforcement stance, with multiple accreditation cancellations reported. Separately, the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) workplan was updated in December, including changes to insulation, hydronic heating, Project Based Activities (PBA) streamlining, and more.

What is happening in the LGC market according to the February update?

The LGC market remains heavily oversupplied, with prices dropping below $4.00 and recovering slightly. NSW and Federal policy is now pivoting toward requiring 'additionality' for new large-scale data centres to stimulate new investment, with AEMO predicting data centres could represent 12% of the grid by 2040; it remains unclear if LGCs (or REGOs) will be the mechanism to drive this investment.

What changed with the STC target for 2026, and how did this affect prices?

The 2026 STP (Small-scale Technology Percentage) target has been set at 24 million certificates, a reduction from the previous year, contributing to a slight softening in STC prices to $39.60.

Where can readers find daily pricing and charts for Australian certificates?
